Welcome reception in the Chancellor’s Room

As a delegate at CouFrac 2026, we’d like to invite you to the welcome reception in the main university building on Sunday, September 20. The reception is held in the Chancellor’s Room where the rector receives prominent guests. Mingle with other delegates and learn more about this fascinating building dating back to the 1880s.

On the walls of the  Chancellor’s Room, as well as a number of others nearby, hang many portraits depicting kings, cultural figures and, above all, professors who have worked at the university over the centuries.

The welcome reception is included in the registration fee.

Banquet dinner at Uppsala Castle

Gustavus Wasa, the founder of the centralized Swedish state, started to build Uppsala Castle in the 1540s, within his national defence program. After his death in 1560, his sons continued the work.

The Hall of State was to be the venue of many festivities and banquets, but it is best known for the 1654 parliament at which Queen Christina abdicated before the estates. The castle was badly damaged in the great fire of 1702. Its restoration was painfully slow, and furthermore the remains came to be used as a supply of stones for other buildings. Eventually Uppsala Castle was restored, but in a more austere fashion. The gardens were donated to the University in 1787 as a new Botanical garden. Today, the castle houses the residence of the County Governor, the City of Uppsala’s art collection, and valuable parts of the University’s extensive art collection.
